New feature! Newsletter subscription block on your website!

edited September 2015 in Updates and Features

We have just rolled out a cool new feature – a newsletter subscription block on your website. You can already see it on your website – it says “Let's stay in touch!” and lets visitors of your website leave their name and email for you to be able to contact them later. The block is not available to those users who are logged in (since you already have emails and names for those who signed up).

You can check out how this new block looks on the different skins by visiting our demo skins:

This feature is the first step of implementation for the general newsletter club functionality. You can use it to collect emails of potential users, which over time would become your paying fans. We found that email marketing is a great tool for promotion, and we want to wield you with the tool as early on as possible. Within the next few weeks, we will also give you the opportunity to download the list of names and emails for your subscribers, which you can then send marketing emails.

The controls for this feature can be found under “Promotion” tab, in “Settings” submenu of "Newsletter club". For now, the only option you have is to either Enable or Disable the “Let's stay in touch!” block. On this page, you will also soon be able to download the email lists.

You also have full control over the text in the newsletter subscription block. You can use the site editor as usual to adjust the wording or text color.

  • @Natalie we're going to try it! great job!

  • Fantastic looking forward to this feature! Great addition

  • Absolutely love it! Thank you!

  • This is awesome! Can't wait to start using it to see how it works.

  • Sounds like a great plan!

  • is there a link for the subscribe block to share ?

  • bootyliciouseva , it's a link to the Home page of your website wink

  • YASSS QUEEN!

  • I like this idea. I think I shall wait until the club list is downloadable until I use it. Will it be on a page where non-members can sign up? And you say not available for logged in members...I'd like it to be avaiable for all so anyone can subscribe if they wish.

  • Hi @rebecca,  the main purpose of this block is collection contact information of potential members, so you can contact them and invite to join your site. As you already have contact info of your members, there's no sense for them to provide you with it again:)

  • @sasha I was thinking more for them to subscribe to a newsletter rather than me simply using the info and sending one. If they're not on the list, they don't get the email.

  • I would suppose subscribed and paying members would automatically be on the mailing list anyway, @rebecca.

  • From what you've said it sounds like it's going in a good direction. But collecting emails at this stage seems pointless if we can't download and use them already.

Do you guys plan on adding a full newsletter system, where we can send them html format emails in the promotion section, as well as including unsubscribe features.

Or are we able to just download the emails?

I worry about using a third-party newsletter service with the downloaded emails. Because if I import them into a newsletter service, they will have the option to unsub. Which is fine, but what concerns me, is if I download the emails again, to get the new signups, if I import them, it'll add the person back to the list even though they unsubscribed.

I don't want to bother people or spam them, I am really interested in doing a newsletter though.

  • @AlexisDropbear, the idea was to roll out the collector first, and then add the download button within a week or so, I don't think it will be swarming with 100s of emails off the bat. Downloading the emails will be a far as we will take it for now, with mailing as a distant goal. See, the program we use, for example - mailchimp - is a great tool, but it's pay-for and a whole separate product of its own. It would involve a lot of development and effort that at this time just isn't at the top of the priority list for us to try to match them (or otherwise looking amateurish). We did get a lot of requests for collecting emails, which is something we thought we could do without spending months and months on it - so we did.

Most email systems will remember the unsubscriber permanently, so they won't get added even if they do end up in your list again. Besides, we will develop an unsubscription option of our own as well.

  • @Natalie Okay, thank you. I'm wondering how you're able to use mailchimp? I would love to use them, but mail chimp doesn't allow sites with adult content. As with most newsletter services, or so I've found in their terms of service.

  • great idea..thanks for adding this :)

  • Alexis Dropbear, the majority of mailing systems do restrict adult content, but only in their emails themselves, not through to the links. It's a tricky line that's easy to cross, but if you have a warning page and the website isn't overly naughty from the first page, you might be ok.

  • This newsletter will be really cool wants set up all the way. But not sure what program to use to send out newsletters. Any suggestions would be great

Also will it have our expired and never joined fans on it as well?

  • @Natalie that is really good to know with MailChimp, especially with just starting out a list

YNot does offer something similar catering to adult and other industries that have difficulty finding these kinds of services.  There is, of course, a monthly fee:

  • Heads up! You now have the list of subscribers plus a way to export them: http://modelcentro.com/newsletter-subscribers

  • Kris Ann, Misha  gives a good option, and I'll research some others.

The list doesn't currently contain the never joined/expired peeps.

  • I love the idea, will there be a way of operating the whole newsletter process within modelcentro without the need of some bulk mail list client?

  • Busty_Von_Tease, it's certainly something we'd like to have, and it's even in the roadmap, but it isn't an easy task and there isn't a particular term set for its completion yet, so I can't promise it'd be soon.

  • @Natalie thanks ! good to know !

  • You might also want to check out:

They should be cheaper and not very difficult to use as I was told.
