Making the most of your social media during a conference
There are a lot of conferences that happen in our industry during the year. Next week is a big business-to-business one, The Phoenix Forum. But nearly every month there is a conference, either b2b or consumer fan show (b2c). Most of the conferences have hashtags associated with them or even a few. The Phoenix Forum is #PhoenixForum or #ThePhoenixForum.
Conference hashtags are a great way to get new followers, find people to follow, and find people to engage with. Often times there are a lot of people paying attention to the hashtag to find out what is going on with the show. If you want to grow your targeted following, a great way to do that is to follow people who are using the hashtag. Because it is so specific, if you are using it too, you have a much higher likelihood of them following you back.
But if you are doing a fan show you might not be able to follow everyone that is using the hashtag. Thankfully there are tricks and tools to help you out. You need to set up a targeted follow campaign. The bestsocialplan is a great tool for doing that. You can set up what hashtags, and/or people, you want to follow, and control the total number of followers you would get. If you do have time, then just start following people that use the hashtag, and many of them will follow you back.
