Help Stop SESTA and Censorship!

edited March 2018 in Announcements

You probably feel pretty safe right now when thinking about your porn because it’s been quite a while since the government last lost its mind in an effort to censor adult entertainment. For those old enough to remember the Meese Commission back in the 1980s, the specter of losing access to porn remains very real and now the US government is fanning those flames of fear by proposing SESTA.

The Adult Performer Advocacy Committee (APAC) has issued an urgent call to action for the entire adult industry; it’s fans, friends and family regarding this new assault on free speech and privacy. SESTA (S.1693) is the companion bill to FOSTA, which passed the House last week (388 to 25) and goes to floor vote Monday, March 12th of 2018 and it would force many online platforms to completely censor the sex industry.

Everyone would be affected, including: pornstars, webcam models, escorts, sex workers or anyone else who is employed by one of the oldest and most popular industries ever created. Instead of making sex work safer and holding wrongdoers accountable, the government appears to be narrow mindedly seeking to push sex work completely offline where it can be far more dangerous for erotic entertainers and their adoring fans. When sex workers are pushed offline, they face and increased risk of violence, the possibility of an STI outbreak become more serious and the revenue the government collects via taxation also becomes far more difficult to properly track. SESTA will impact all adult performers and their fans in a massively negative way while simultaneously costing the government millions if not billions of dollars in the long run.

If this bill passes, according to APAC “We are likely to see performers’ social media accounts dramatically censored, if not shut down entirely. It is also highly likely that platforms that allow performers to upload their own content will be targeted and shut down.” That means your favorite models on ModelCentro.com, or influencers on social media using FanCentro.com might suddenly disappear and only be available in big urban markets where you might be able to occasionally see them as feature performers. Why let that happen when stopping SETA is so simple for you to do?

This is the moment for all sex workers and adults to stand in solidarity. Protecting your rights and the rights of every other adult in the United States is as simple as calling your representatives in government right now. If you aren’t sure who your Senator is or how to reach them, don’t worry they can’t hide from you! Their information is all listed right here online:

Two phone calls, one to each of your Senators urging them to VOTE NO ON SESTA, Senate Bill 1693 is all it takes to stop your online porn from being taken away! Taking action is important and it has to be done before March 12th 2018 so stop reading and call right now!

APAC has also suggested using the following hashtags to help create a unified voice on social media: #LetUsSurvive, #SurvivorsAgainstSESTA, #SESTA, #StopSESTA Let’s all come together (the way good pornstars always do) and put a stop to SESTA right now!
