Video SEO: How and Where To Do It
Just wrote a blog post on Video SEO for Camming Models / Amatuer Porn Producers. It's going to be one of those living blog posts that gets updated every time I find a new site to add. I'm sure there's some common-sense type ones that I've missed already and if anyone sees anything I'm mising I'd love to know. You can find the post on the link above and for the hell of it, I'll go ahead and copy / paste it here.
There's tons of video SEO resources out there, but 95% of all the video SEO content is geared towards YouTube, which isn't the most relevant to members of the adult industry. Here's some tactics to consider and some sites you can use (besides your website) to rank videos in video search.
Adult Video SEO For Camgirls and Amateur Pornstars
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is very important for camming models and other adult performers. By learning the best practices of SEO, you can increase your search engine rankings in tap into a steady flow of traffic from Google and other search engines. If you’re producing video content, then video SEO is also a very important task.
When referring to “video SEO”, people usually mean ranking pages under video search. In addition to ranking the pages for video search, models should also be trying to rank the pages containing the videos in normal search as well. How to do that is covered in the post linked-to in the first paragraph. For this post we’re only going to be focusing on ranking content in video search.
How To Rank Videos For Video Search
Just like in normal SEO, there’s tons of factors that go into ranking a video in search. Here are some of the main things to consider when doing video SEO:
Video File Name – Because search engines do not possess the logic to be able to watch videos and determine what the video content is about, they use the video file name to better determine the content of the video. Instead of a filename such as video1.mp3, use a filename such as solo-masturbation-in-bedroom.mp3. Make sure it’s keyword rich, describes the video, has all lowercase and the words are separated by dashes.
Meta Title – Search engines also look at the meta information of a video. The meta title is the most important of the meta information.
Meta Description – The meta description isn’t quite as important as the title, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not important.
Other On-Page Content – Search engines will look at the rest of the content on the page to better determine what the video is about. In most cases, the video is related to the text on the page. You usually don’t see a video on cooking included on a webpage about auto repair.
Authority Of The Site / Page – A video on a webpage and website that has a high authority will have an easier time ranking than a video added to a site with a low authority. To learn how to build up the authority of your website, read our guide on SEO.
Both Embeds and Hosted Files Can Be Ranked
Most people don’t realize that you can embed a video on a webpage and get the webpage with the embedded video to rank for video search. It seems that it’s much harder to rank and embed for video search than it is to rank a webpage with the actual MP4 (or other video file) contained directly on the page.
That is because there’s no actual filename and file meta on the actual web page. Search engines can’t watch the movie, so they look at the file name and meta information to get more information on what the video file is about. Without that information, Google has to go with the other content on the web page (text, images, ect) containing the embedded video to try to determine what the embedded video file is about.
If you’re trying to rank a page with an embedded video file for Google video search, make sure to pay attention and optimize the text and other onsite-elements for search.
Ranking Videos On Your Sites and Other Sites
Video SEO doesn’t necessarily have to be done on your website exclusively. It’s also possible to get videos ranked on a number of other websites as well. Although it’s definitely more effective for the traffic to be hitting your site instead of other sites, sometimes video SEO is actually easier on other sites. Tube sites are a great example of this. Tube sites generally have some amazing authority, and search engines know they specialize in video content.
The other advantage of ranking video content on other sites is that they handle the bandwidth, making it much more affordable.
The More Content = More Search Phrases Targeted
As with all SEO, the more content you’ve got the more chances of targeting multiple search phrases. Targeting multiple search phrases will result in more traffic from a more diverse audience. This is one advantage of catering to multiple niches and fetishes, as you will naturally target more search phases, simply by producing and posting the content.
If you’re only dealing with a select number of fetishes, you can still target more search phases with more content. The trick is changing up the keywords you’ve got in the title, description, ect. while still making sure that the title accurately describes the content.
Competing With Pirates: DMCA Complaints and Stolen Content
The biggest competition you’ll face when performing video SEO is dealing with pirated content. When people steal your content and post it on other sites, there’s a chance that video content will come up in search. Although it can help build up name recognition, it’s usually much more effective when the content is posted under websites you own or on under your personal account on other websites.
In addition to having to compete with the pirates, when they’re recording your shows and posting everything for free, it’s less incentive for people to pay for the live performance. Reducing the amount of pirated videos makes your content exclusive to the web properties you own and control. This gives you the ability to pick and choose what’s added as a free teaser and what remains exclusive.
Most sites will have instructions for submitting DMCA complaints. There’s also tools like Cam Model Protection for monitoring and reporting DMCA complaints. Keeping up on stolen content and DMCA complaints can be a daunting task, but pays off in the long run.
The silver lining is that if people are stealing your content, it’s because you’re gaining popularity. It’s just one of those negative side-effects of success that every camming model and amateur pornstar has to deal with.
Sites You Can Upload Adult Videos To and Get Indexed
As mentioned above, video SEO doesn’t have to occur on your site. In fact, sometimes it’s easier and less expensive to upload your video content elsewhere and get it ranked in video search. A hybrid strategy of ranking videos on your own site as well as other sites is generally the best solution, as you’re able to change up the keywords each location where the video is uploaded, making each piece of video content target multiple search terms on multiple sites.
Here are some sites you can upload your adult video content to and get it ranked.
Porn Tube Sites
Tube sites get great traffic and also perform real well in video search. Uploading your videos to tube sites is one of the easiest ways to get them ranked in video search as well. To get your videos to rank better, make sure you use a good title full of keywords that people might be Googling when looking for the type of video you’re offering.
Also be sure to take advantage of any revenue-sharing programs the tube sites might be offering, uploading a banner to your website if it’s an option and watermarking your content so people know where to find you at.
ManyVids
ManyVids is a site for selling adult videos. When you upload a video to ManyVids, a short nine second video preview is created. This video preview can get indexed and appear in Google video search. This is great, as it’s just enough to get people to your ManyVids profile page and see a short little teaser. It’s not long enough to make it where you’re ‘giving it away for free’, but just enough to drive traffic from video search and make some sales.

ExtraLunchMoney works just like ManyVids. It’s possible to create a short video teaser for the videos you’ve got for sale. ExtraLunchMoney takes it a step further and offers you an embed code. By copying / pasting the embed code onto your website or blog, the short video preview will show up wherever you add the code. This is great for promoting all the ExtraLunchMoney content that you’re selling on your website and other web properties.

DailyMotion
DailyMotion is a video site similar to YouTube and Vimeo. DailyMotion is a lot more liberal when it comes to nudity and adult content and allows for it as long as it’s not porn or too sexual. That means that you can record and upload stripteases and other sexy content on the site. DailyMotion plays really well in video search and is a great way to reach a larger audience.
YouTube
YouTube is perhaps the easiest site to rank video content on. That’s because Google also owns YouTube and they play very nicely together. The disadvantage is that YouTube is not adult-friendly! That doesn’t mean that you can’t use the platform. By creating safe-for-work content, you can still build up name recognition and reach YouTube’s massive audience. They’ve even got a content partnership program where you can get paid from revenue the ads on your video generate.
Vimeo
Vimeo is another video sharing site. It allows Artistic Nudity as long as the primary purpose of the content isn’t sexual stimulation. Seeing how the purpose of camming and adult content sales is sexual stimulation, be careful if you’re featuring nudity in your content. It might be safer to go for the safe-for-work approach. It’s still a site where yo ucan reach a large audience and build up name recognition.
Vine
Vine is a platform for producing very short video clips. Vine does allow nudity, as long as it’s artistic and not sexual in nature. This rules out most the content that a camming model or amateur porn producer would use the site for. You can. however, post clothed sexual material. Since Vines are short, it’s a great platform for doing simple announcements.
For example; posting an announcement of when you’re going online to cam and mentioning what kinds of shows you’re going to perform. It’s also great for announcing when you’ve released a new video or content set, describing what the content is about.
Building A Video Marketing / SEO Strategy
Video marketing and video SEO is much more effective if you build up a video marketing strategy. This will create a protocol on what to do when releasing a new video, making the syndication of content a more streamlined practice. It’ll also help you benchmark your video marketing results and strategically target new search terms. Here’s some tips for building a video marketing / SEO strategy.
Build A List Of Video Syndication Sites
If you’re syndicating your video content (or teaser clips) to multiple sites, it’s best to create a list of those sites. My favorite thing to do is create a bookmark folder on your browser and add bookmarks to all the video sites in that folder. If you want to save the trouble of clicking a few extra times, bookmark the direct link to the video upload page instead of the homepage.
Now when you have a new piece of content to syndicate, you simply open up all the sites in a new tab and start uploading.
Brainstorm Relevant Keywords To Target
Think of the type of fetishes and niches you cater to. Build a list of these fetishes. Brainstorm a bunch of keywords associated with each fetish. Take those keywords and think up a bunch of search terms browsers might search when looking for that particular type of content. These are the search terms that you want to target. Now do some searching and see if you’re ranking for any (both Google search and video search). If you’re not ranking for the phrases you brainstormed, you know what search terms you need to be targeting.
Benchmarking Your Search Engine Rankings
Now that you know what keywords you need to be targeting, it’s time to get to work. There’s tons of SEO suites out there for benchmarking your search rankings, but the free method (and one of the most effective) is simply Googling the queries yourself and seeing how you rank. You can also see who the competition is and what sites are ranking best.
Optimizing Content For Internal Searches
If you’re uploading video content to video sites, internal search is just as important as video SEO. What algorithm signals and ranking factors are used will vary from site to site, so there’s no formula that will work with every site. The best thing you can do is experiment. When you find things that work, try applying it to other videos and see if there’s success. Some things to consider is the title, description, categories and tags.
Building Up A Following On Video Sites
In addition to video SEO, you can also get tons of traffic directly from the followings you build on all the sites. These followers can be nurtured and converted as you continue your video marketing efforts. In addition to your content showing up in their feeds and announcements, many sites use the number of followers / subscribers as a ranking signal for internal video searches.
Dominating The Search Results For High-Value Queries
In addition to diversifying to target a wider range of search queries, you should also work to dominate the search queries for the fetishes that are most valuable to you. This can be done by syndicating the content to multiple sites (so that each site appears to the site query) as well as creating a bunch of content catering to that specific fetish. Dominating the video SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages) will make it harder for the competition to compete and help build name recognition by being the owner of the content that everyone searching within that fetish finds the most.
Designing Videos To Convert
If it’s possible to determine what URLs are sending the most converting traffic, it’s possible to determine what video content of yours gives you the most conversions. Through this analysis, it’s possible to produce better converting material. It might be specific fetishes that convert better or it might be specific filming and production techniques that drives the most conversions. Learning what videos convert the best will help with your future video marketing efforts.

Oh boy, thanks for the input @WebcamStartup!
Just the tip of the iceburg. Want to do some experimenting with internal search algorithm signals for some of the more popular camming sites. Optimizing content for search engines is only one half of the equation. There's also tons of sites with internal search features, and each site has a different algorithm used to calculate results.
Although it's easy to speculate what some of the ranking criteria is (could probably just rip off YouTube's key ranking criteria and it'd probably be a decent match) you never know until you start experimenting and benchmarking results.
great info, i think it needs to be updated for 2017
