Always add hashtags!

I cannot overstate how important hashtags are to getting traction on Twitter. Hashtags are how people find you in search. They are what identify your content. If someone is a foot lover, they are likely to search for #footlover and #footworship on Twitter to find good foot content. If you are using those hashtags, there is a better chance that your content will be found.

Adding hashtags do not have to be hard. When you upload a photo or video set to Modelcentro, you select a niche for that photoset/video. Whatever that niche or tag is, that should be one of your hashtags.

Twitter is moving in a direction where SEO (search engine optimization) in tweets are becoming more important. If you are a top Twitter account for a particular term, that means that every time someone is searching for that term they will find you. The more you use a term, the more you engage with other accounts that use that term, the more likely you are to appear in top tweets. The formula is pretty simple. Tweet about that topic, include the hashtags, talk to other people who use that hashtag and talk about the topic. You can even add the hashtag to your profile for an extra boost.

You can check to see if you are appearing in top tweets, or who is appearing, by just doing a search for your term.  This is updated constantly. However, if you stick to a core group of terms, with some work you can often position yourself consistently in top search. Depending on how many people are using a term will determine how easy or hard it is to get positioned as such. This is also why it is better to get more specific with your niche, ie. hyper target your keywords, to reduce the competition in Twitter.

You can also work on positioning yourself on Twitter for more than one term, so it can be a good idea to go for 1 niche and 1 more general.

The reason you want to be in "Top Tweets" is because when most people do a search they leave the search on "Top" rather than switching to "all". If you look at the image, you will see at the top of the search newsfeed that there is a "Top" link and an "All" link. All shows you every tweet that is going out on Twitter, as it is happening. Top tweets are only the top tweets.  Top tweets can be as new as a minute old, or days or sometimes even weeks old. So it is possible to hold a top tweet position for quite some time.
